Last Sunday, the 29th of March, just in time for the clocks changing to summer time, Ultimate Vienna hosted a small mixed tournament in Vienna’s Prater. Thanks to the great cooperation with Rugby Club Donau and SPORTUNION Vienna our organizer Peter Jesse had little troubles to make everything work out.
Facing perfect weather conditions, except for the smoke of the miniature railway (Liliputbahn) passing the pitch, 6 mixed teams from 3 countries competed 7 vs. 7 on artificial turf. The Slovakian Mixed National Team, Cosmo (Slovenia) Wiener Mischung, Chuck Bronson, Wunderteam (all from Vienna) and Mosquitos (Klosterneuburg) grasped the chance for an early start into the mixed season and were very motivated to play a day of high level Ultimate. For most of the teams, it was the first outdoor tournament and a great opportunity especially for the Slovakian National Team who could use it as a tryout for the upcoming EUC in summer.
It was great to see that the games were highly spirited. Many of the players have known each other for a long time, which created a nice atmosphere both on and off the pitch.
Here is a résumé from Kathi (Mosquitos):
“It was a very intense day with 4 games of 75 minutes against strong opponents. This guaranteed tight matches and a nice opportunity to play a lot of Ultimate with little expenditure of time.”
Congratulations to tournament winners Chuck Bronson and SOTG winners Wunderteam and Wiener Mischung!
On April 26th, Ultimate Vienna will host the Turf Splash (http://ffindr.com/de/event/austria/turfsplash), another day of mixed ultimate at Prater!
UVIE plans to organize more of these events to strengthen the Ultimate community in and around Vienna; so stay tuned!
